Using A Microwave

How To Make Scented Soy Candle.

(Using A Stove)

First I would like to thank you for purchasing a Papa’s Candle Shoppe starter kit. We strive to use only the best ingredients made here in America when we make our candles and put together our starter kits.

If you have purchased our Basic Kit you will need to get a few items before we can start making our candles.

· Some type of double boiler pan or a larger pan and a glass or metal pot that can fit inside. (Even a clean tin coffee can will work to put in a sauce pan.)

· A candy thermometer

· A large stirring spoon

· Some type of cover for your table or work area (newspaper, wax paper, etc.)

· Some type of glass jar such as a jelly jar or mason jar for the candles.

Now that we have all the extra items you need, let’s get started.

Take the lower sauce pan of your double boiler; put an inch to inch and a half of water in it. Set on stove and turn the heat up to medium.

Papa’s Candle Shoppe starter kits are all premeasured for you so that candle making will be easier. Open your 1 lb. of soy wax and pour it into the container that you have chosen to use. (The pan, glass or metal pot or empty clean coffee can etc.) Set this container into the pan of boiling water and put your thermometer into your wax.

Caution: DO NOT LEAVE YOUR WAX HEATING UNATTENDED. WAX IS VERY FLAMEABLE AND WILL BURST INTO FLAMES ONCE IT REACHES ITS FLASH POINT. (290 – 380 DEGREES)

While your wax is heating you will want to take your warning labels and stick them to the bottom of your glass jars. Next take the wicks and put the sticky tab onto the bottom of the wick. Take the straw and slide the wick up it. Holding the straw and the top of the wick Make sure to peel the paper off the end of the tab and gently insert into the clean glass jars doing your best to center the tab. Press down on the straw to help the wick adhere to the bottom of the jar. Remove your straw and do the process over again in your next jar till all the jars that you need are wicked.

Once your wax has reached a temperature of 155 degrees remove the pan of wax from the top of boiling water and add the 1oz bottle of fragrance and the dye chips that go with that scent. Stir for 1 – 2 minutes till the color and fragrance is completely mixed into the wax.

Let the wax cool to 115 degrees and stir lightly one more time. Now you are ready to pour the wax into your containers. Pour slowly so as not to create bubbles in your wax. Once all of your jars are full use the wooden sticks to center your wicks and let your candles cool at room temperature.

Make sure that you let your soy candles season 3 – 5 days before you burn them. Candles must season that long so that the aroma will be strong when you light them. Before lighting, trim the wick to ¼ inch. Always burn your candle until it pools all the way across the top before snuffing it out. Never burn for longer than 4 hours at a time.

Enjoy
